Just….w..o..w…!! As a nurse, this is baffling!!!!!! I mean, w..o..w..! The nurses who stood around and those doctors should all lose their license!! Every medical person is required to have up to date emergency cpr training!! ‘Annie! Annie! Are you ok?!’ They all learn this and what are the signs and symptoms needed to preform cpr! Not to mention, I mean you can’t get a manual bp,!? Sheesh! Really?! I was responsible for checking to ensure med techs in nursing homes were doing their job correctly. (Med tech in my state at that time had to be a CNA II with at least a yr experience in medical setting.) During one of my trainings, luckily, the med tech and CNA getting vitals for that morning happened at the same time. She was having difficulty getting a bp, though this woman was alert she was sluggish and appeared to be dehydrated. Checked glucose level which was in normal range but her bp was 80/40-something. I instructed cnas to stay with her and I ran to call 911. Several things worked in her favor. 1- I was there that day, and happened to be present when CNA was getting vitals. 2- we needed vitals to give certain meds she was on, and was able to see what was taking place. 3- I quickly assessed her and called an ambulance. 4- he room was close to the nurses stat I could reach pone quickly. 5- we were next to the hospital. And 6- EMS was at hospital not driving around. I also worked at a detox unit where the local hospital sent a pt to us, who they stated was medically stable - since we were a stand alone facility and only took medically stable pts. When I arrived he had just been checked in from last shift. The aids checked his vitals for shift N I was taking report. While taking report I observed this new pt stumbling and sliding sown walk to help him from losing balance. The aids and LPN rolled their eyes, and made off-hand comments! This man was severely jaundice, very ashen, could not stand straight/losing balance, weak pluse, low bp, slurred speech-mind you he had a severely high BAC (blood alcohol level),when he was taken to ER. He had alcohol poisoning and his level was at numbers that had he not been long time alcoholic it would have killed him, and if I wasn’t there (or another qualified person), he would have died. I called 911, then called the ER that sent him to us - fortunately/unfortunately was only couple miles up road - and reported to a supervisor (once EMS had left and I had chance to review the records sent to us), the negligence of sending this person to us. His labs, and presentation clearly showed he was not stable enough to be sent to a facility for medically stable pts only! I had to notify my supervisor of the incident and stated clearly staff needed more education, bc if I wasn’t there this could have ended badly! All of that is to show that as medically trained personnel- esp RN/MD level -you are trained how to spot & react to emergencies!! If nothing else, how to call for a code team at the hospital or EMS outside of it!! Every last one should lose their license!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND be SUED for their lack of action! Just asinine!!!!! This poor sister will now have not just her parents to look after, but her sister as well!!!!!

It’s something that us pomona seniors had to spend hours and years completing courses with blood, sweat, and tears in order to reach this point. We fought to reach the point of commencement and now to have it almost denied is pretty infuriating.
